Julie’s clients don’t just learn from the hands-on organizing services she provides — they also learn skills that allow them to maintain their new, more organized environments in the future. In addition to working one-on-one with clients, Julie also writes articles and teaches seminars on organizing and time management for companies, professional organizations and volunteer groups. (Contact Julie about her availability for speaking engagements.) Julie also appears regularly on Chattanooga television, offering insight and advice on subjects related to having a more organized life, and is often interviewed by representatives of the media.
Julie was inspired to start Best Results Organizing after a long career as a television program director. Broadcasting is a high-paced environment in which strong organizational skills and systems are paramount for keeping things running smoothly – a little bit of disorganization can lead to dead air, disappointed viewers and lost revenue. Soon after September 11th, 2001, Julie found herself seeking a career change, a professional opportunity that allowed her to use her skills to inspire change and help people achieve their dreams.
What Best Results Organizing Believes
Julie Bestry believes that getting organized is about making life and work more functional. Julie feels so strongly that blame and regret hurt the organizing process that she created Best Results Organizing’s business motto: Don’t apologize! Organize!
Julie says:
I tell all my clients that disorganization is not a character flaw–it’s merely a mismatch between the systems and skills in our lives and the actual lives we are trying to lead.
My philosophy is that everything should have a place to live, and my corollary is that “Not everything has to live with YOU.” That means that when I work with a client to declutter, we also try to find the appropriate places, via charitable donations, recycling or resale, for outgoing items to “live”.
To Julie, organizing is about far more than aesthetics. Her goal is to help clients achieve all of their goals — including saving time and money, reducing stress or increasing productivity – through organizational skills and systems.
Julie believes that organizational skills can be learned if the environment is right and the student is willing. She loves to share this story, reflecting her philosophy about making positive changes:
At a recent workshop, facilitator James Baraz told the following story.
A woman came to a Buddhist teacher seeking advice about a certain problem. The teacher made a wise recommendation, but the woman objected that she couldn’t follow it because of another problem she had.
The teacher offered a second solution, which the woman also rejected, saying it would be impossible to carry out because of yet another difficulty. Once more the teacher described a course of action she could take to minimize the original dilemma, and the woman named yet another problem that would prevent her from implementing it.
Finally, the teacher ended the conversation, saying, “When your intention to change is greater than your intention to stay the same, then you will change.”
